BP, Silverstone and Sam Bird

BP Ultimate Porsche

It is not unusual for us to be asked to film something when the client has little idea of the exact nature of the end result… they just know it would be sensible to capture it on video!

This was just such a case. Our friends at Launch Group who look after PR for BP were aware that the first ‘Ultimate - only’ filling station was due to open on Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit one wet Thursday in December. Up-and-coming racing driver Sam Bird (sponsored by BP) was available for the day along with a fully Ultimate branded Porsche and a couple of Ford Focus STs and we had use of the Silverstone National Circuit. They had lined up a number of journalists to come along and asked us if would ’shoot it’!

The day started - and continued - bleakly with heavy rain showers throughout the day. Despite this we managed to get some useful library footage of the new filling station and around 30 minutes of useable track footage of Sam bird putting the Ultimate-fuelled cars through their paces as well as some “vox pop” style interviews with some of the journalists.

From that we cut together what amounts to a 30 second commercial for BP Ultimate and whisked it over to our client at Launch Group.
His comment? “This looks fantastic!”

The ‘commercial’ has been uploaded to numerous websites - including www.sambird.com - and was used on BP’s stand as an attention grabber at the Autosport show.
